Jawed Nama Iqbal-Asmani Drama Ki Haiyat Main +

Javed Nama is one of the master pieces of Iqbal. In it Iqbal uses the literary device of heavenly encounter of himself and Rumi with various noted personalities (bad and virtuous). Iqbal and Rumi visited seven heavens and on each heaven they encounter different individuals. Iqbal asked questions from these personalities about the various problems related to worldly and heavenly life. Iqbal masterfully uses the personalities as mouthpiece to explain the complicated issues in easy to understand way.
This long poem is an essential reading for all those who have already read Iqbal’s Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam or are planning to read it. In fact, after reading this poem, they can better understand the Reconstruction.
The original poem is in Persian. This prose translation of the original poem is the work of Dr. Javid Iqbal, the son of Allam Iqbal. The main motivation behind this prose translation is to make the message of the poem more understandable and impactful to today’s young people. Simple literary translation, and many already exist both in Urdu and English, may not serve the purpose.
The book’s preface by Dr. Javid Iqbal provides a detailed summary of the poem. Anyone can simply read this preface a couple of times to get a very good grasp of the main events and ideas in the poem. Of course, it should increase one’s appetite to go through the full poem rather than substituting it. The last part of the poem contains Iqbal’s advice to his son (and is an advice to all the young men of Pakistan) that what Allah Almighty want from them, and how they should live to have a more meaningful life in this world and an eternal one in the hereafter.
The book is beautifully printed and it contains illustrations in the form paintings drawn by Jimmy Engineer who done this work at the request of Dr. Javid Iqbal. However, the book contains many typo errors. I have pointed out many and would like to share it with the publisher so that they should be removed from the next printing. The publishers in Pakistan should adopt the practice of careful expert review of manuscripts before getting a final copy out. This is all the more essential as books cost significantly to a purchaser and each customer has a right to a clean error-free copy.
