Sand Chronicles - Mithi: Whispers in the Sand by Salman Rashid

Dr Shafi Memon, born (October 1941) and raised in Diplo, had his early education from a school established in his hometown in 1912. He remembers a town of reasonable affluence and much education. In the late 1950s when he had to travel to Hyderabad for his matriculation examination, the only way to go was by camel. In order to avoid the daytime heat, travel was by night and he recalls that his elder brother tied him to the saddle so that even if he nodded off to sleep, he would keep his perch. The nearest road head was Naukot from where they rode the bus to Hyderabad.
