Salman Rashid in his book Shahrah Khubani Kay Musafir traces the old route (Western Muztagh Pass) used by the Baltis of Baltistan to reach Yarqand for trade and settlement through the mighty glaciers and mountains of Karakorum. The book tells us how these Baltis have crossed the technical western Muztagh pass on the head of Sarfo Laggo Glacier. The writer also highlights and provides references to the work done by the western explorers in the Panmah Muztagh i.e. Godwin Austin Expedition, Vigne Expedition and Shipton Expeditions. The second part of the book explores the Chinese Turkestan now Xinjiang from Kasghar, Yarqand, Karghilick and Raskam valleys. The writer reaches the north face of K2 aka Chogori and hence links the way from Shigar, Baltistan to Yarqand in Chinese Turkestan.
